Man, 23, in drugs arrest

A 23-year-old man from Żejtun has been charged with the importation and aggravated possession of drugs after he was caught importing half a kilo of mephedrone.

The mephedrone was intercepted at the Post Office and investigations led the police and customs to identify the person for whom the drug was intended.

IT Manager, Stefan Scicluna, pleaded not guilty to the charges. Lawyers Steve Tonna Lowell and Giannella de Marco requested bail on the grounds that what their client had actually wanted to import were “legal highs” and not what he received and they had all the evidence to support this.

Magistrate Edwina Grima remanded him in custody.

His 21-year-old brother, who was found in possession of cannabis resin, was also arrested, the police said in a statement.

An inquiry is being held by Magistrate Gabriella Vella. Police are still investigating.
