Suleiman Ba, a 29-year-old migrant from Gambia living at Safi detention centre, this morning admitted in court to attempting to escape last Monday at around Noon.

Police Inspector Arthur Mercieca said that the accused had told the police that he had found out that his wife and child were living with another man in Gambia, and out of sheer frustration, he had tried to escape.

The accused had apologised for his action.

Dr Simon Micallef Stafrace, legal aid lawyer, asked the court to consider the situation of the accused and the fact that he was a first time offender.

Magistrate Edwina Grima jailed him for six months.
