Chambermaid admits hotel thefts
Maria Elena Bonnici, a chambermaid at Bugibba Hotel, this morning admitted in court to stealing cash from nine guests by using her master key to get into their rooms.
She was caught last Sunday but the prosecution said thefts had taken place over a period of months.
The court placed her under probation for three years.

I really think that if one is caught red handed, they should be punished with the full force of the law - because there is no doubtremaining and the crime was only stopped because they were caught red handed.
With other cases, I would agree where proof is as a result of other evidence or admittance than consideration should be given to other forms of punishment including community service.

Mr. M. Camilleri, community work does exist, but it's not always applied.

100 hours community work cleaning up some Sliema streets would do a world of good.

Why so, C.Bonnici? Wasn't she caught? She should have been ordered to repay those she stole from and given community work but maybe that entails too much trouble!

i agree with R.Cilia...community work must be introduced in Malta...its good for the country and for the person doing this work. i cant see why this should entail too much trouble. Local councils should take care of this and help the village to be better.
