The government has condemned the massacre which took place in the Syrian town of Tremseh, where more than 200 men, women and children are believed to have been killed.

It also urgently called for the UN Monitoring Mission in Syria to be allowed to investigate what happened and establish who was responsible for the attack.

Malta has called on the international community to adopt measures through the UN Security Council to bring the 16-month conflict to an end, through the effective application of the UN special envoys and Arab League’s peace plan for Syria.

Foreign Affairs Minister Tonio Borg said Malta’s thoughts were with the Syrian people, and all those who suffered as a result of this latest atrocity.

“More than 17,000 people have died already. The time has come for decisive diplomatic action to bring about a peaceful end to the violence. All members of the Security Council must shoulder their responsibility to bring this about”.
