Power cuts lasting hours
I refer to the front page report Parts Of Energy Grid Feeling The Heat (July 13).
It is quite misleading to give readers the impression that the series of power cuts in several localities over the past few days lasted a “few hours”. The Times also quoted a nameless individual who stated his mother-in-law almost passed out when “a three-hour-long power cut affected their area”.
For the record and as a matter of fact during last week’s heatwave there were two consecutive power cuts in just over 24 hours in certain areas of Tarxien where I happen to live. They lasted for five hours on one day and a whole 10 hours the following day, that is from 2.45 p.m. to 1 a.m.

Be thankful Johanna that at worst your power cuts lasted for a total of 15 hours and were weather related (too hot) when parts of North USA were without power for (in some parts) over one whole week, also due to weather conditions (too windy) and just as hot as is in Tarxien!

The usual PN apologists litany: be grateful because there are people worse than you! How ridiculous can you get. You are soon going to tell us that electricty is a luxury that people in Africa do not have -so be grateful for a few hours of electricty each day. Why not compare us to countries that are far better off than we are - or would that blow GonziPN's trumpet-blowing to smithereens?

In the 70s and 80s we used to have power cuts nearly every day. Furthermore, at least where I used to live, during winter one switched on the light and just a flickering light came on. And this continued for months on end. That's life, isn't it?

No; Life is not like that. Life is a challenge for continuous improvement.
What you say is that we are no better than in the 70s and need to accept it.

Yes right. And in the 70 and 80 people protested in the streets, taking their children and banging pots and pans. Where are those protestors now?

People protested in the streets for other reasons. No water for days on end or just a trickle, numerus clausus at university, korpi wara korpi, and a thousand other things. Need i go on?
