Health risk at St Julians
I was a few metres away from the incident mentioned in The Times (July 10) by Leonard Zammit in Balluta, when a power boat hit a swimmer not more than 10 metres away from the shore. This time it was only a close shave but next time, who knows? The incident happened last Sunday noon time. I must also comment on the new phenomenon of the large number of boats that anchor for the weekend metres away from where people swim.
Who is making sure that these boats do not flush the toilets in the bay metres away from the people enjoying the usual clear waters around?
On that particular day I can assure the EU controlling authorities that the water was not as pristine as the impression given a few weeks ago when Malta’s waters were declared clean and safe for swimmers.
Let us not spoil the few things we can still enjoy due to the irresponsible actions of a few. It should not be too difficult or costly to control and guarantee the safety of the places where too many boats anchor too close to swimmers.

I am sure that this phenomenon of discharging affluent, sewage and other waste from private boats anchored within bays all around Malta, Gozo and Comino is polluting the seas and creating a health hazard to innocent swimmers. Well done for pointing this out sir.

I have had more than one ear infection swimming (not in Balluta or Spinola) so all is not as rosy as it is painted.
