It may not have been the original Pink Floyd that performed at the Granaries in Floriana on Saturday but the Australian version lived up to the band they pay tribute to and kept their promise to blow their audience away.

The two-and-a-half-hour long concert, the third the band has performed in Malta since 2005, included an extravagant light show, bolstered by new lasers, lights and video effects.

It built on previous shows, breathing life into some Pink Floyd material that would otherwise not get heard, presenting a track list that was a mixture between the most and less known material of the British rock legends.

The band also played a tribute to singer-songwriter and guitarist Syd Barrett, one of the founder members of Pink Floyd, who passed away in 2006.

Joining them at Saturday’s concert was Pink Floyd veteran singer Lorelei McBroom, who performed with the British rock legends on the Momentary Lapse Of Reason and Delicate Sound Of Thunder tours.

Aussie Floyd was formed 20 years ago and has since sold about three million tickets in 35 countries. The band is on the road as part of the Exposed In The Light World tour and the Malta gig will be followed by dates in France, Germany, Canada and the US.

The tribute act had returned to the island in 2007 to perform at the Jazz and Rock Festival.
