A drunken chef who stumbled through his neighbourhood knocking on doors because he could not find his own house was yesterday given a suspended jail term for punching an officer.
The 27-year-old Hungarian from St Julians had finished work on Wednesday evening and decided to have a few drinks ending up completely drunk, Magistrate Antonio Mizzi heard.
He made his way home at 8 a.m. and, on getting to his street, began looking for his house and knocking on neighbours’ doors because he could not find it, lawyer Roberto Montalto told the magistrate.
When the police arrived he punched Sergeant Clinton Theuma before being arrested.
He pleaded guilty to slightly injuring the officer, disturbing the peace, refusing to follow orders and being so drunk that he was unable to take care of himself. The court handed down a one year jail term suspended for two years.
