A 42-year-old man from Xaghra died at Ramla l-Hamra in the limits of Nadur after he faced difficulties while swimming this afternoon.

His lifeless body was pulled ashore by members of the Emergency Response and Rescue Corp and was given basic life support but attempts to bring him back to life proved futile.

The lifeguards were assisted by the police, paramedics from Gozo General Hospital and members of the Civil Protection Department.

The incident happened at around 6 p.m.

The ERRC runs the lifeguard service at Ramla l-Hamra with the help of the Malta Tourism Authority, the Gozo Ministry, Transport Malta and the Civil Protection Department.
