New names in, old names out in PN election list
The PN this evening published a provisional list of candidates for the general election.
Among them are new candidates Dr Mario Rizzo Naudi a family doctor, cardiac surgeon Prof Albert Fenech, former MITA chairman Claudio Grech, Emanuel Delia, head of Austin Gatt's secretariat and Therese Comodini Cachia, a human rights lawyer, trade unionist Gejtu Vella as well Siggiewi deputy mayor, engineer Ryan Callus.
A number of veterans are missing from the list, including former Health Minister Louis Deguara and former works minister Ninu Zammit, current Speaker Michael Frendo as well as Louis Galea, now serving in the European Court of Auditors and Commissioner John Dalli. Austin Gatt had already said he would not be a candidate. Helen D'Amato, the Commissioner for Children, who was not elected at the last election after serving as parliamentary secretary for the elderly, is also not on the list.
The list of candidates is not final, Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi said.

They also would have had to sign a declaration that if elected they would forget the wishes of the electorate and follow the wishes of Gonzi at all times. Who knows whether he had an agenda when during Dr Sant's government he was clamouring for a cost of living increase of some €18 (Lm8) and that was in 1997.
How many weekly increases of €18 did he demand ever since i.e. until he remained in UHM?

Is it possible to sue both the goverment and Arms ltd for all the inconvenience and money we are losing ? it's rather funny when someone fails to pay the bills , they get cut off but when they fail to supply us with electricity we are left losing a lot of money , many had to turn clients away .

Quite frankly at this point I honestly don't care who wins the coming election... I just think the sooner it's called the better it is.... The country, as things stand, is in desperate need of a new fresh government, something like rebooting a computer... Too many things are frozen and mulfunctioning and we citizens (from both sides of the political spectrum) deserve much better than this, especially with all the current global turmoil. I wish someone blows the whistle ASAP as I am sure that whatever the political colour of a newly elected government will be, will give us a fresh start....

I wish these candidates success in helping to restructure their Party while in Opposition. Anyway a number of them have already reaped substantial rewards particularly some of the booted veterans. Change the Party`s MOTTO because now more than ever it makes no sense considering you are the Party of blatant hypocrecacy: RELIGIO et PATRIA my foot... what about: CORRUPTION & STENCH.
However WE THE PEOPLE who detest both these major Political Parties would love to form a strong Political Union to help in rebuilding this country. First rule : NONE involved with the two major political parties in recent years are to be incorporated.

What has decency got to do with Dr Gonzi calling an election?
Do you know what you are talking about? Did you expect the NP Executive to pat the three on the back for a job well done? Luckily we live in 2012 and not pre-1987. Labour MPs could not even look at their leader the wrong way, otherwise they would not have survived to run at the following election!

Jessica, I think the decency should come from and respect the results of the last election. Dr. Gonzi is by the will of the People. The prerogative as to when call the election is his, unless the Government looses a vote of confidence or non confidence, which has not happen to far.

Dear Jessica......at least our PM and leader of the party was elected by the constituents. The PL once again has a leader who had never ever contested the general elections before. He is a member of parliament not through votes, but because Mr Cuschieri "resigned" from his seat to accomodate Dr. Muscat. Iaddahhaqx ta u tghid ghand min qeda d decenza!!!! If this was the UK it would be a very different scenario ... but unfortunately here in Malta people treat politics like football they only see colour nothing else.
Yes Gonzi should have called an election a while ago, not cause PL wanted it but for respect of its citizens ... long recesses to avoid internal trouble does not do the country good.
The good of the country comes first ...and don't tell me the PN is doing that, when nothing is happening in parliament.
That is just blind excuses.

if you have the slightest bit of decency... would you leave jessica express her opinion ?!... i think that you're like all the other people in your party with the motto ' agree with us or shut up '. we all know that constitutionally the goverment can keep power until the end of the legislation unless a voice of confidence is not lost but i think that for the country's own good he has is morally obliged to call the election in september or october . at the end of the day ... the more he will keep power the more the pn will suffer !

This goes to show that GonziPN does not have the nation's interest at heart.
Alfred Sant's legislature although there's was a huge absolute majority of 7,633 votes whereas Gonzi's was a relative majority of a mere 1,580 votes, Alfred Sant was decent enough to terminate his legislature since there was trouble within the party so as to put the nation's interest first rather than his party's. Here is the evidence of the big difference between the two, Sant and Gonzi.

When I read the above, I seriously start wondering if there is a real NEW Labour or a NEW PN
When considering that the PN is proposing a list of Fresh, Young, and less young, energetic and Valid candidates, that to me inspire a lot of trust..
While on the other hand, the so called New Labour, still embraces and offers as candidates, old Ministers from the dark 80's such as Schiberras Trigona, Bartolo, Brincat, Vella, Debono Grech and others...
Some things never change ....MLP is one of them...

I wonder what your remarrks would have been if LP presents candidates close decendants of the so called by you old ministers!!! the likes of Fenech Adami, Gonzi, Mifsud Bonnici, Demarco and others still part of the PN strategy. Are these the new PN candidates - Karm Mifsud Bonnici, Censu Galea, Edwin Vassallo,Francis Zammit Dimech, Giovanna Debono, Jean Pieree Farrugia, Lawrence Gonzi, Mario Galea and Tonio Borg.
So much for the new, energetic, valid and young candidates. But what stands out is the PN leader who is running on an empty tank and his days are counted to that of Dr. Muscat who is simply a breath of fresh air.

At least those old names aren't responsible for secret deals with North Korea, the building of close and personal relations with Ghaddafi, friends of Lorry Sant etc. Actually those old names are the people who have always done a good job, and have been voted for many many times over. If it isn't broken then don't fix it.
As for the PL, well, the less said the better.

No, they have switched them for the EUSSR. Indeed there are too many old names in both parties and the brain-dead people who vote them are more to blame. I can't argue with you on the bad decisions made back under the Mintoff administration, a lot of good was also done, and that you can't deny either. Yes, some achievements have been made. You would hope so in about 25 years; but to say they have always done a good job....you must be out of your mind, or benefiting somehow from their clench to power. It is broken, it has been broken for a while now.
Ps. Funny how all of a sudden everybody is demonizing Gadaffi while others go unnoticed. How very conveniently.
