The Malta Union of Midwives and Nurses this morning welcomed amendments to the Electoral Law approved in Parliament yesterday, through which patients at Mater Dei, Boffa Hospital, Karen Grech and Mt. Carmel Hospital would be voting in their respective hospital.

MUMN said there were three instances when it had to resort to industrial actions during elections.

To exert their right to vote, patients had to be escorted by nurses from the hospitals to polling stations in the most adverse of weather and clinical conditions.

"This was totally inhuman and we, as nurses who escorted such patients, could see and feel the hardship and the dangers which had to be endured by such patients."

The union said that it held meetings with the political parties and submitted proposals to be included in the reform of the electoral law.
