Now that restoration works have started on the ramparts of St Elmo, in Valletta, the remains of Alexander Ball should be removed with dignity and placed inside his monument in the Lower Barrakka Gardens.

His tomb inside the bastion wall is in a miserable state, open to the weather, and his memorial slab is beyond restoration and should be redesigned.
