Parts of  Birkirkara as well as parts of Paola, Fgura and Tarxien are without power this evening because of separate faults in the distribution network.

The first fault took place at 4.45 p.m. and also affected parts of Lija, St Venera, Attard and Balzan, but electricity to those areas has now been restored, Enemalta said.

The second fault occurred at 5.31 and affected parts of Paola, Fgura and Tarxien, which are still without power.  Enemalta said its engineers are working to restore power as soon as possible.

Yet again you divulge your deep affection towards the Enemalta employees without having a shred of knowledge about the issue! Do you have a personal agenda against the employees, Mr. Murray? How and why do you think that employees are responsible for power cuts? Please explain! Have you ever thought how can an outdated power station (Marsa), where turbines are over 60 years old, be run without having sufficient spare parts available? Have you ever thought of the dangers in manning these ancient plants? Please try to insert some rational logic in your next comment.

Peter Murray,
So what is it exactly that you are implying Mr. Murray? That the Enemalta workers are responsible for blackouts? Are you serious?

History repeats itself. In the 70's to 80's was the same, power cuts .at least not water cuts too.

yeaahhhhhhhh history repeating itself. So remind me how much the electricity cost way back in the 70s and 80s mate.. and compare it with the extortionate tariffs we are forced to pay now. 25 years doing nothing apart from milking this country's financial resources dry.

Mr Barbara, you excuse them... you are an enemalta employee?
I am tired of reading what apologists have to say!
This is 2012!!! and we are paying through our nose for power and the least we need is this.
There is no overloading! People are really using power as a last resort.
these are EXCUSES... remember we are in an EU country run by two steady pair of invincible hands and not a third world country where these things happen.

and that's an excuse? enemalta should anticipate these loads and make sure they are catered for!!

Dear Mr Bugeja, I am in no way affiliated with Enemalta, nor have I ever been in the past. I have only posted this comment cos I understand how difficult it is to cater for an explosion in electrical load, especially after years of bad planning.

Now I'm not going to point fingers, since this would be pointless...The only thing we can feasibly do is be a bit more concious about energy reduction methods. Face it? What else can You and I do about it?

We only got back online at 9, but sometimes these things happen.

No, I am not employed at enemalta, or have ever been, or have a brother, sister, dog, cat.... there is simply too much infrastructure...

Not a bad idea putting in JPOS + FD + M to fix the fault in the system , they will pass a vote of no confidence in the laws of physics and hey presto!!!

@Carmelos Ellul, trust me JPO and JM have more knowledge in Physics than all current government MPs put together!
