More areas without power
File photo
Parts of Birkirkara as well as parts of Paola, Fgura and Tarxien are without power this evening because of separate faults in the distribution network.
The first fault took place at 4.45 p.m. and also affected parts of Lija, St Venera, Attard and Balzan, but electricity to those areas has now been restored, Enemalta said.
The second fault occurred at 5.31 and affected parts of Paola, Fgura and Tarxien, which are still without power. Enemalta said its engineers are working to restore power as soon as possible.

So many millions wasted on power generation and distribution and, it seems there is no map showing where power cables are laid! There should be a very high fine, to discourage contractors to cut cables nonchalantly! But I guess no body cares!

The power cuts in Malta increase proportionally with the electricity bills! Compensation is long due. Food in the fridges goes bad, appliances get faulty, discomfort for many employees, elderly, mothers and children... these power cuts are taking place in the worst summer heat when outside it is 35 deg in the shade.
And yet the maltese tax payers have to swallow all sorts of excuses!
Class action against enemalta possible, anyone??

This no longer a surprise or once in a while incident. It is obvious that it is going to happen all through the hot months of summer. Apologies and excuses are now the joke of the day.

This country's infrastructre is no better than most third world countries, a heatwave and everything comes to a halt.

we should all strike don't pay your power bills until they stop this every day some where is without power yesterday it was Sliema and Gzira to-day Parts of Birkirkara as well as parts of Paola, Fgura and Tarxien are without power who is next to-morrow ?

Where are all those bleeding-heart Enemalta supporters now expressing solidarity with the workers there as in the case today of the Arriva bus hitting the electricity pole.Balckout are largely a result of poor manenance and the systematic and abject failure and incompetence of the management at Enemalta to run a company -elsewhere but into the ground

Yet again you divulge your deep affection towards the Enemalta employees without having a shred of knowledge about the issue! Do you have a personal agenda against the employees, Mr. Murray? How and why do you think that employees are responsible for power cuts? Please explain! Have you ever thought how can an outdated power station (Marsa), where turbines are over 60 years old, be run without having sufficient spare parts available? Have you ever thought of the dangers in manning these ancient plants? Please try to insert some rational logic in your next comment.

Peter Murray,
So what is it exactly that you are implying Mr. Murray? That the Enemalta workers are responsible for blackouts? Are you serious?

This is 2012 yet we are still without a stable electrical system . Shame

History repeats itself. In the 70's to 80's was the same, power cuts .at least not water cuts too.

Jul 11th 2012, 08:23
yeaahhhhhhhh history repeating itself. So remind me how much the electricity cost way back in the 70s and 80s mate.. and compare it with the extortionate tariffs we are forced to pay now. 25 years doing nothing apart from milking this country's financial resources dry.

Unfortunately during these hot months it is inevitable for faults to develop. The reality is that loads shoot up whilst current carrying capacity of equipment decreases drastically with temperature... Its obviously good practice to have redundancy but I don`t really blame Enemalta...Its a struggle to keep up with the demand and one can`t exactly replace every piece of ageing cable or switch-gear in the country.
So the best thing we can do apart from grinning and bearing it, is try to economize on power consumption...open the windows and use fans in the evening as opposed to ac's , avoid using ovens especially electric ones....these not only contribute to electrical load but generate a massive heat gain in our homes which will need to be cooled off....Use common sense, reduce the load on our grid and the supply will suffer from less interruptions and less headaches for our selves and the engineers and technical personnel at work...

Mr Barbara, you excuse them... you are an enemalta employee?
I am tired of reading what apologists have to say!
This is 2012!!! and we are paying through our nose for power and the least we need is this.
There is no overloading! People are really using power as a last resort.
these are EXCUSES... remember we are in an EU country run by two steady pair of invincible hands and not a third world country where these things happen.
Peter Bonello

and that's an excuse? enemalta should anticipate these loads and make sure they are catered for!!

Dear Mr Bugeja, I am in no way affiliated with Enemalta, nor have I ever been in the past. I have only posted this comment cos I understand how difficult it is to cater for an explosion in electrical load, especially after years of bad planning.
Now I'm not going to point fingers, since this would be pointless...The only thing we can feasibly do is be a bit more concious about energy reduction methods. Face it? What else can You and I do about it?

Birkirkara - power restored some 6 minutes ago. 3 hours without power and unable to work! Who suffers financially? Of course .. it's me and you ... enemalta just issues their "normal" apology/excuse!! Apology not accepted!

We only got back online at 9, but sometimes these things happen.
No, I am not employed at enemalta, or have ever been, or have a brother, sister, dog, cat.... there is simply too much infrastructure...
