After reading the article Paving Project Puts Businesses In Strait Jacket (July 7) including the online edition and comments thus far, I would like to make a couple of points which I believe were not addressed in the article and which, had I been asked in the telephone interview, I would have expressed as clearly and unequivocally as follows.
Firstly, I must say that there was total collaboration and cooperation between the authorities concerned, the contractors involved and our restaurant before and throughout the duration of the project. I must mention that we have also been in constant contact with the Valletta local council about this project and all efforts have been taken so that, to the greatest possible extent, the inconvenience caused to residents and businesses alike in the area would be minimised.
Secondly, I cannot but mention the obvious fact that this specific stretch of the project referred to will certainly improve the already picturesque Strait Street ambience to the total benefit of our restaurant and local residents as well.
This said, I believe we as Maltese are very quick to complain and protest, however the above clarified, I certainly feel that this embellishment, together with all other public embellishments that may be carried out around our island from time to time, certainly go to make Malta a better place to live in and help to attract and make the tourist-experience a better one.
