Pawla Callus, Kate Gonzi's mother died at St Vincent de Paul this afternoon, aged 93, 10 days short of her 94th birthday.

In a statement, the Nationalist Party expressed condolences with Mrs Gonzi, the Prime Minister's wife, and the Gonzi and Callus families.

Condolences were also expressed by the Labour Party.

Mrs Callus, the party said, was a mother of seven who was dedicated to her family and who brought up her children with love instilling in them respect for the family and its unity.

She was a woman who lived according to Catholic principles and passed these principles on to her children.

She was also a teacher.

Her funeral is being held at the Safi Parish Church on Tuesday at 8.30 a.m.

So true - I still remember one of the brothers, I think Paul, who used to come to our late father's for a write-up about St Paul which was then published in the yearly publication on the occasion of the feast of St Paul in Safi.
