Foreign Minister Tonio Borg has invited the newly-elected French Speaker, Claude Bartolone, to visit Malta.

Dr Borg issued the invitation on behalf of Speaker Michael Frendo during a meeting at the National Assembly in Paris.

Dr Borg is the first foreign dignitary received by Mr Bartolone whose mother is Maltese. They discussed the Arab Spring, in particular Libya and Tunisia, the economic situation in Malta and the outcome of the June EU Council.

Relations between Malta and France and the upcoming 5+5 summit to be held in Malta in October were also on the agenda.

Dr Borg yesterday attended the international ministerial meeting on Syria that was held in Paris.
