Italy-Malta World Cup qualifier to be played in Modena
The 2014 World Cup qualifier between Italy and Malta, on September 11, will be played in Modena's Braglia Stadium.
The FIGC chose Modena for Italy's first game on home soil to show solidarity with the victims of the recent earthquakes in the Emilia region.
It will be Malta's first away match.
The Gazzetta dello Sport reported that the decision was backed by local authorities.
The stadium in Modena is the only one in Emilia that fulfils all the necessary requirements set out by FIFA and UEFA to stage official international football matches.

Maltese players might not be serious, but in Malta football is not a priority unlike in your town , Big Boy, where people have nothing else to believe in.

A hard nut to crack. I side for Italy but when Malta plays I am all out to give our NATIONAL TEAM my FULL SUPPORT. FORZA MALTA. ( DURING THE EUROPEN CUP I WAS WATCHING AN INTERVIEW ON RAI TV IN WHICH THE CHILDREN FROM THE EARTHQUAKE REGION OF EMILIA HAD ASKED BUFFON IF THE ITALIAN NATIONAL TEAM COULD PLAY A COMPETITIVE INTERNATIONAL MATCH IN ONE OF THEIR FOOTBALL GROUNDS.HE SAID THAT HE WOULD REFER THE REQUEST TO THE ITALIAN FOOTBALL ASSOCIASTION. THEIR WISH HAS COME TRUE ON THE FIRST OCCASION AND OUR NATIONAL TEAM WILL BE PLAYING IN THIS GAME WHICH WILL IN A WAY SHOW MALTA'S SOLIDERITY TOO.
