Man conditionally discharged for maltreating animals
A man who had been charged with maltreating animals was today conditionally discharged for a year.
Mario Cutajar, 45, of Birkirkara had been arraigned after he was found holding 25 fox terriers in cages in a field in a bad condition back in April 2009.
The dogs were found during an inspection after several reports had been lodged. The dogs, some of which had given suffering from skin disease, were given the necessary treatment and adopted.
But, according to evidence given by Animal Welfare Officers, Mr Cutajar has since learned how to keep animals in a good state.

Very sad news. At the very least this man should be prohibited for life from keeping any animals at all. At AAA, we got 6 fox terriers from the 25. And apart from the skin and eye infections their behaviour showed what they passed from. Since they lived in cages on top of each other, even when in the sanctuary we gave them a tiny dog bed each, they slept on top of each in the corner on the floor. They even made toilet on each other because that is what they used to do when in cages. Feeding time was a nightmare, every dog had to be separated or else they would fight each other to death. Even after weeks and months in aaa they were still not the 'normal' dog.
So reading that they were conditionally discharged makes me sad. The courts should be strict, we have to stop being so lenient.

here we go again.....I sure hope he's learned his lesson, but I would NOT allow him to keep dogs for breeding.
