Some 400 pay and information kiosks are to be set up all over Malta and Gozo to offer a variety of services including payment of utility bills, phone top-ups, booking adverts on newspapers, calling a taxi and seeking information on real estate and tourism sites.

The kiosks are being set up by Mobile Systems Ltd, which is also planning to set up similar kiosks in other countries.

Vera Boyajyan, CEO of Mobile Systems, explained at a press conference  that 25 kiosks have already been set up. So far they provide phone top-ups and booking of newspaper adverts (through Perfecta Advertising). They can be used for utility payments from next week.

Mobile Systems Ltd, was founded in 2010 the first company in Malta to provide mobile acceptance of payment. MaltaPay System accepts payment from individuals or companies for different types of services via cash or payment cards.

The service was launched in the presence of IT minister Austin Gatt.

He said that this is not just a product, but a means for more efficiency and less beuraucracy.

"This is a clear case of the private sector understanding the government's vision and doing its part to guarantee a better service to the Maltese citizens," Dr Gatt said.
