A Sudanese woman was accused today of having injured a policeman when she allegedly bit his hand severely during an incident at Hal Far detention centre on June 22. Another policeman was slightly injured.

Informed sources said the police were called in by social workers after the accused, Roda Abdalla Owei, 23, refused to take pills for a medical condition and became agressive.

The woman allegedly assaulted two policemen who arrived on the scene, seriously injuring Sergeant Marco Mifsud and slightly injuring constable Elliott Magro.

The sergeant needed hospital treatment.

She was also accused of disobeying police orders.

The woman pleaded not guilty and has been kept in custody.
