During 2011 there were 49 police officers, ranging in rank from inspector to recruit, who were injured on duty. The greatest number in any single rank was 34 policemen.

Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi was answering a question by Michael Falzon (PL), who had asked for details dating back to 2002.

The worst year for police injuries on duty was 2006, with 124. In the other years since 2002 the number of reported injuries on duty was respectively 52, 79, 64, 73, 59, 69, 70 and 66.

Dr Gonzi pointed out that although the Police Corps representative for health and safety at work did not lodge reports on such incidents, each reported incident was investigated by the Injuries Board led by the corps medical officer.
