A man died afternoon in a head-on crash between two cars in Burmarrad Road, Burmarrad. A motorcyclist was injured in a separate incident close by a few minutes later.
The fatal crash happened at about 6 p.m. and involved a Fiat Brava and a Subaru which the victim, a 60-year-old man from Mosta, was driving. The Brava was being driven by a 75-year-old woman from Birkirkara, who was not hurt.
The vehicles did not appear to be extensively damaged and investigators are looking into whether the man fell ill before the crash.
A few minutes later, a motorcyclist was injured in a crash some 400 metres away from the site of the fatality. The motorcyclist was rushed to hospital in an ambulance.
The road was closed for traffic in the direction of Mosta while a magisterial inquiry was held.
Earlier this afternoon, a driver was slightly injured when his car crashed out of control on the Rabat road and ended up upside down in a field.
