I refer to the contribution by Victor Laiviera, Hypocrisy Exposed (June 26).
Mr Laiviera equates the case of the three Nationalist Party dissidents with that of Adrian Vassallo. The latter voted differently from the rest of the Labour MPs because the Labour Party granted a free vote. His only fault is that, after so many years militating in the PL, he cannot yet understand Labour-speak. Joseph Muscat stated that he had to face the consequences.
Three government MPs either supported Labour motions or obstained, bringing down an upright minister in one case and one of the most intelligent, competent and successful public officers on whose abilities the government leaned heavily in the other, when the PN granted no such free vote. Dr Gonzi said they had to face the consequences.
Is the context the same?
If a person of the calibre of Mr Laiviera genuinely cannot spot the difference, then the country is in for another long period when mediocrity is crowned again if Labour is elected to power.
