The men’s national team will be in San Marino next week for the FIBA European Championship for small countries. The last tournament of this kind was played at Ta’ Qali two years ago and on that occasion the Maltese finished third.

Preparations, under the guidance of coach Paolo di Fonzo and his assistants Joe Galea and Peter Farrugia, started at the beginning of the year.

Malta will be playing in Group B along with Wales, Scotland and San Marino. Moldova, Andorra and Gibraltar are in Group A.

Di Fonzo’s team start with a game against Scotland on Monday after-noon. Wales follow on Tuesday and the Maltese wrap their group matches on Wednesday against San Marino.

July 5 is a rest day and the semi-finals and finals will be played on July 6 and 7 respectively.
