Reliability, warranty cover, energy and water consumption are all main points that consumers have to look out for when purchasing a major domestic appliance.
Product reliability and length of warranty cover go hand in hand so both areas can be tackled simultaneously. As a general rule however, the longer the warranty period, the greater the product reliability. A seven-year warranty is obviously better than a five-year warranty. Also, recognised brands are better than obscure brands.
Siemens appliances fit the bill on all counts – the seven-year warranty on Siemens appliances tops all other warranties on offer and the Siemens brand is anything but obscure. In fact it is one of the top three leading brands in Europe and has a long-standing representation in Malta as well.
Energy-efficiency and low-water consumption should be at the top of anyone’s specification list when buying domestic appliances. Fridges and freezers having an energy rating lower than A+ Class should be avoided at all costs – the more plus signs a fridge or freezer has, the better. A Siemens A++ fridge with top freezer can consume 248kWh less than an A+ model annually. This means 0.68kWh every 24 hours or €0.182 less daily. Add this daily saving to the saving made by your Siemens washing machine, dishwasher and oven. You’ll find that the extra daily costs of your utilities are reduced dramatically when using Siemens appliances.
You should also ensure that the A++ is really A++. Check the consumption figures – energy labels should show annual and daily energy consumption (as well as water consumption per load and estimated annual consumption for washing machines and dishwashers). Reliable suppliers like Siemens will also give information on the methods used to reach these figures. A product energy label backed by a known brand like Siemens will also ensure that the facts presented are backed by internationally recognised regulatory bodies like the German VDE and not simply figments of the suppliers’ imaginations.
The overriding advice when buying domestic appliances is that in today’s world of ever-increasing utility costs, it is ultimately considerably cheaper and cost-effective to choose a costlier energy-efficient appliance with the longest-term warranty possible backed by an easily recognised brand name with a reputation to protect. Siemens appliances will meet all these criteria and much more. See them at Level 2, The Atrium, Mrieħel.
