Spice Girls want kids to be proud

The Spice Girls hope their stage musical Viva Forever will help convince their children about their chart-topping pop career.

The band - Geri Halliwell, Emma Bunton, Victoria Beckham, Mel C and Mel B - reunited to unveil the show, written by Jennifer Saunders and produced by Mamma Mia's Judy Craymer, and set to the songs of The Spice Girls.

Mum-of-two Emma revealed her son Beau, 4, doesn't know who the Spice Girls are, and said she is looking forward to taking him and 13-month-old Tate to see the musical.

She said: "My boys haven't got a clue who we are. (Beau) says 'The Spicey Girls?' So I can't wait for him to see this, to see what we're about and hear the music."

The show - which features numerous hits from the band - follows a talented girl and her friends who find overnight fame and looks at the impact sudden celebrity has on their lives and family relationships.

The band said they want their children to enjoy their songs.

Geri revealed: "My daughter [Bluebell], I haven't really told her about the Spice Girls and she keeps on coming home, and I was really surprised about this, she's only six, that her school friends know who we are.

"I feel really proud of that, that she's just loving the music and singing along to it. I'm like, 'Wow!'"

Mum-of-four Victoria added: "My kids are really creative and love music. They've always loved musicals. My parents have always brought them up to take them to the West End and when we're in New York we go to Broadway, so it's always been a huge part of all of our lives, musical theatre."

Viva Forever is due to open at the Piccadilly Theatre in London's West End on December 11.
