On June 4 The Times carried a picture showing a permanent horse shelter taking shape in Marsamxett Road, Valletta. No information was given as to how many horses this small shelter is to accommodate and, more importantly, when will the other horse shelters with a ready water supply be put in place. What are the authorities waiting for?

There are over 65 karrozzin horses on the road licensed with Transport Malta; they are promoted as a tourist attraction. Do the authorities honestly think that by erecting one small shelter this will satisfy animal-caring tourists and locals?

Considering that summer has already begun causing extensive discomfort to these working horses, those responsible for getting anything done are no doubt sitting comfortably in their air-conditioned offices, calmly ignoring the suffering they are causing to these animals by not having erected all other shelters which had been publicly promised by Rural Affairs Minister George Pullicino.
