He’s a founding member and the drummer in UK progressive rock band Arena, but Mick Pointer’s career in rock actually kicked off back in the late 1970s when, along with Steve Rothery, Brian Jelliman and Doug Irvine he formed (and named) Marillion.

Although he eventually left them in 1983, Pointer was in the band long enough to play on the band’s breakthrough debut releases; namely the Market Square Heroes EP and the acclaimed album Script for a Jester’s Tear, which not only peaked at number 7 on the UK album charts but is also widely regarded as one of progressive rock’s epic releases.

With that milestone album’s 30th anniversary coming up early next year, Pointer has gathered together some friends and leading lights of today’s prog-rock world, among them Pendragon’s Nick Barrett (Pendragon), Mike Varty (Credo, Landmarq, Shadowland, Janison Edge), Ian Salmon (Arena, Shadowland, Janison Edge) and Brian Cummins (Carpet Crawlers) to celebrate the album by recreating the classic, early Recital of the Script shows under the banner of ‘Script for a Jester’s Tour’ across Europe.

Maltese Marillion fans will be able to experience this amazing live show on September 1, when Pointer and Co will be performing live at V-Gen in Paceville. Tickets cost €20 (€25 at the door) and are available either online at www.sjcav.org or by calling 9905 5052. Doors open at 9.30 p.m. and local band Colourblind will be the supporting act.
