The temperature has soared to an all-high for June but the working horses (karozzini) are still seen waiting helplessly for long hours in the scorching sun.
The plan of works for a permanent, small horse shelter has taken years to come to fruition. We have also seen a “plan” of another horse shelter, which is to shade 10 horses by the cruise liner terminal, both (when actually in place) to offer water points, shade and will also include cesspits.
The excuse given for not putting the other Valletta shelters in place is because the Malta Environment and Planning Authority insists on the requirement of cesspits for every shelter and that these have encountered problems
Why is Mepa using this excuse to block a project that would help these poor animals and put the authorities in a good light? The other shelters and water points can easily be built without the necessity of cesspits as in other countries. Is this the excuse to not proceed with the erection of all the other shelters, even those outside Valletta? Correct me if I am wrong but isn’t the head of Mepa the Prime Minister himself ?
