Every night, before I go to bed, I have to use Lacrigel, an ophthalmic gel to lubricate my eyes. I am informed by various pharmacies all over Malta and Gozo that it is currently out of stock. Some even told me that it is not going to be imported any longer.

Therefore, during a recent short trip to Paris I took the opportunity to buy a few tubes to last me a few months. In Paris, I bought each 10g tube for €3.94. In Malta, a similar tube costs €8.10.

Can anybody, possibly from the pharmaceutical industry, explain the substantial difference in cost?
