International experts will be in Malta next week to address a half-day conference organised by the Malta Association of Risk Management.

Scheduled for Wednesday at Qawra’s Dolmen Hotel, the conference will focus on governance, risk management and compliance in the private and public sectors, and will be opened by Finance Minister Tonio Fenech.

Prof. Vito Spada, a senior banker with 28 years’ experience in managing international banks, will share his insight on debt and central banks. Prof. Spada is an expert in portfolio and risk management at corporate level for Italian banking institutions in Europe, Asia, the US, and Italy.

Prof. Robin Pritchard, head of Birmingham City University’s business school, will deliberate on whether boards and executive teams are demonstrating that they are sufficiently aware of the risk exposures facing their organisation to address stakeholder concerns.

The issues that will be put to the delegates will include how best to ensure effective risk management is practiced by all boards, the need for independent risk advice and coordination of action at board level, and whether there is a strategic role for a dedicated professional sitting on a board.

Kam Pouyamajd, head of portfolio analytics at Bloomberg for Europe and MESA, will discuss market risk.

MARM members may attend free of charge. The fee for non-members is €25 and is refundable against membership.

For registration, e-mail secretary@marm.org.mt.

The MARM event has been accredited with three and a half hours of structured CPE by the MIA National Conference on Risk Management.
