Artist Debbie Caruana Dingli is serious about her cartoons, as she shows in her first solo exhibition in Gozo.

Her latest effort, titled In Search of Another Planet, features a series of cartoon paintings and portraits in oils.

The beguiling canvases sensitively expose everyday topics that tickle or perhaps abrade the artist’s mind and open an enticing window into different segments of the Maltese contemporary society.

The figures depicted are strong in character, along with the brushstrokes around them that come from a vibrant palette.

Though appearing humorous the paintings possess underlying meanings that come out forcefully to the attentive viewer.

Born into a family of well-known artists, Ms Dingli soon took to canvas herself and quickly became confident working in watercolours and oils.

After her first solo exhibition in 1985, she went on to show her works around Malta and abroad, finding favour with many international art collectors.
