London-Mombasa via Malta's courts
A young man ended up in court in Malta after a raging row with his girlfriend on a plane taking them from Britain to Mombasa in the early hours of this morning.
A court heard how Londoner Matthew Michael Evans, 24 had been on a Thomson Airways flight to Mombasa when he had a heated argument with his 24-year-old girlfriend.
She got so angry that she told other passengers that he was carrying drugs. The Captain decided to divert the plane to Malta to remove the couple. The plane is expected to leave Malta later today.
They were arrested by the Maltese police and 18 grams of cannabis resin was found in the man's luggage, Police Inspector Pierre Grech told the court.
Mr Evans pleaded guilty to being in simple possession of the drug and he was conditionally discharged for three years.

The flight has NOT continued on to Mombassa yet. The passengers are waiting for their flight to depart at 6pm local time.
Mr Evans is still lingering around Malta airport irritating the passengers with comments like "you're only delayed a DAY - so what?"
Sadly, the stress of the delay has resulted in one gentleman being taken ill (possibly due to stress?) , and he and his family are having to remain in Malta for now.
Mr Evans and his aquaintance have ruined the start of the holiday for a whole 767 full of passengers. I doubt he'll feel any remorse or guilt though....

If that is so, I hope that the airline will charge him for the extra expense that they went through.

Technically speaking, this is trafficking. Conditionally discharged for three years, eh? He should count himself lucky he was found transporting it across national border and not just in the privacy of his own home and for personal use...imagine the sentence he would have slapped with there!

I don't think there is any way it can be construed as trafficking because the intention to pass it on to others (in Malta) was clearly not there.
