Two internationals for referee Vassallo

Maltese international basketball referee Bernard Vassallo has just been nominated by FIBA for further appointments in the European scene following a very positive 2011/12 season for him, consisting of eight FIBA Cup ties including seven EuroLeague fixtures.

In fact, Vassallo, who last year became the first Maltese referee to officiate in the highly-prestigious EuroBasket Finals in Poland, will be in Madrid in midweek as he was nominated to officiate the important EuroBasket 2013 Group D qualifier between hosts Spain and Germany.

This match will be played at the Pabellon de San Antonio arena.

Both Spain and Germany were finalists in last year’s EuroBasket and are currently aiming to be present again in the 2013 finals to be played in France.

Sweden, Romania and Bulgaria make up the rest of Group D.

Lisbon will be the next destination for Vassallo as he was also nominated to referee the Euro-basket 2013 Group A qualifier between Portugal and Israel on Wednesday, June 27.

These two teams are pitted in the same group with Ukraine, Belarus and Hungary.
