GonziPN in meltdown - Muscat
Labour leader Joseph Muscat said this evening that GonziPN was in meltdown and as predicted, Parliament this evening witnessed another government implosion.
Speaking at a press conference after a motion calling for the resignation of Richard Cachia Carauana was approved with the backing of Jeffrey Pullicino Orlando, Dr Muscat noted that Dr Gonzi had said in his speech in parliament that he viewed this motion as saying that he himself had betrayed his duties. With the motion having been approved, Dr Gonzi now had to act on the basis of his declaration.
Speaking at a press conference, Dr Muscat said Dr Gonzi's speech in Parliament showed how he was in denial. Instead of trying to save his majority, he had launched an attack on the Labour Party.
What Parliament had seen was another implosion of the government.
GonziPN had failed once twice, three times and was no longer sustainable.
This was evidence of how the prime minister had failed. This was not about any individual MP. As what happened in the past few months showed, this was an issue involving different persons where the common denominator was the prime minister.
Today Parliament even heard a declaration that some 10 MPs were ready to vote with the Opposition motion.
This was a meltdown of GozniPN, a meltdown which was affecting government stability and democratic governability at a time of recession when Malta needed a government with the moral and democratic authority to take decisions.
Parliament had not believed the prime minister this evening
The prime minister now had to act on the basis of his own declaration that he viewed this motion as saying that he had betrayed his duties, Dr Muscat said.

Am I the one who is sick of this situation? We voted a government to govern, and all we hear is about RCC, CMB and la bella compania. Its evident that the only feasible option is for Dr Gonzi to call it a day and allow us to decide. In that way, the PN will have the chance to get rid of those element they feel fit to get rid off while the country will end up being governed by a party whose focus is actually to lead the nation.
I wonder why the Gonzipn is afraid of calling an early election. If they did so well while in government then surely the majority of people will stand beside them.

Joseph and it's supporters have nothing to be happy about. We have seen how Joseph Muscat attacked anyone who had some form of fight (being small or big) with MP from the government benches. PL does not care about all the good that RCC has done. All they care about is the political advantage they will get. This shows us that Joseph Muscat has managed to make PL a tool of injustice while this is STILL IN THE OPPOSITION. One can only imagine what PL in government would do!!

Well Joseph -
As I said in previous comments - don't forget what PN did to Dr Sant's government;
People know - they remember history too well.
and I disagree with you. Young Joseph brings a lot of hopes to this country - many nationalists agree too. Time for a change. The old guard had enough and is crumbling anyway.

Gonzipn is imploding from inside. Look at them they are getting exactly the same medicine which they dished out way back in the 1998.

@ Manuel Camilleri:
If Dr. Sant knew any better he should have won the past 3 general elections. As for Gonzi, its time to resign and be consigned to be part of Malta's past, just as Dr. Sant is, with all the due respect.
Now its time for Joseph Muscat to lead this country towards a brave future!!

Dr. Gonzi said many times that an election will be held when it is in the best interest for the Country. The Government has won two votes of confidence and any other vote is by no means a treat for the Government to resign.
JPO JM and FD had ample opportunities to bring forward an early election but for their own reason they did not give the PL the privilege of winning a vote of no confidence.
It is now business as usual and the PN will guide us to the end of this electorate mandate, while the PL will keep trying to distabilise the Country.
In the meantime the electorate would have more time to judge the benefits achieved in these five years of PN ruling.

"Dr. Gonzi said many times that an election will be held when it is in the best interest for the Country."
You mean in the interest of the party. We all know from the media that the surveys are showing that the PN is lagging behind by 12%. The power of incumbency is already in motion to lessen the gap.

I hope there will not be another vote of confidence! At this stage I see no other way for the PM, other than to call an election. The PN has to renew from within, perhaps to re emerge stronger.
It's time for JM to show us what he's made of. People's expectations are sky high. They want to put to proof the saying that "actions speak louder than words"

This is a dangerous game Dr. Muscat is playing which in the eventuality of winning an election will come back to haunt him. Today's outcome has truly proved that there is a need of an election, however, I'm forseeing very tough days for the PL if they either win or lose the election. In case they had to take the throne, they will have to be what this government was not, succeed where this government has failed and keep all promises without exception no matter what the glabal situation is. The next 3 years will be very interesting indeed.

Never has there been a motion of this kind in the House.. People who haven't noticed this betray their ignorance of how things should be done. A successful man will always make enemies. Envy makes one act in the most despicable manner and brings out the worst in him. Somebody consumed by hate will go to any length to satisfy his basic instincts.

yeah, you were quick to say that Dr. Muscat. You managed to get JPO on board this time round. You found another pulcinell who does not believe in what he preaches and who takes every opportunity to be in the lime-light. As soon as he noticed that Franco stole the centre stage, JPO jumps in with one of his tantrums so that he can make the headlines once again. What a buffoon! Why don't you tell us Dr. Muscat why Dr. Sant is falling out with you?
