The second Malta Golf Association Generation Cup, sponsored by Nescafe, was played earlier this month in Marsa.
Twenty-four teams registered for the full 18-hole competition and a further eight contested the nine-hole event which was run concurrently with the main tournament.
The shortened competition was won by Jean Scerri, who played with his son Nicholas. They finished top through a one-stroke lead from Michelle Gialanze and her son Edward.
Maurice Gruppetta and Edward Micallef Stafrace placed third.
In the main event, 2011 winners Bernard Cassar Torregiani and his grandfather Vincent Curmi, with a net 58, missed third place on countback.
Third was awarded to Doreen Balzan and her daughter Leann who in turn had to concede second place to Felicity Dix and her son Rupert, also on countback.
The Cassar Torreggiani family, however, were not about to let the trophy slip from their grasp. This time it fell to Bernard’s brother Matthew who together with his adopted golf partner Louis Sansone claimed first prize with a net 57.
Trophies were presented to the winners by club captain Ian Macpherson, William Beck, the association president, and Nestle Malta Ltd director Naum Janakiev.
