A series of events will be held to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the death of Francesco Masini (1894-1962).

Dr Masini’s greatest achievement was the foundation of the Gozo Party in 1947 with six other people.

In 1947, Dr Masini, together with Anton Calleja and Joseph Cefai, was elected to the Legislative Assembly, serving as a member till the collapse of the Boffa government in 1950.

Dr Masini served in the Gozo Law Courts between 1919 and 1962. He was also a member in numerous organisations and committees, including the Leone Philharmonic Society, where he was appointed honorary president.

Among the commemorative events, an exhibition on Dr Masini will be opened at the Banca Giuratale in Victoria today. It will remain open until July 5.

A special commemorative evening will be held at Francesco Masini Street in Victoria on July 6 at 7.30 p.m.

The events will be concluded with Mass at the Cathedral in Victoria on July 9 at 6 p.m., the anniversary day of Dr Masini’s death.
