Daredevil walks across Niagra Falls on tightrope
A daredevil has become the first person to walk on a tightrope 1,800 feet across the brink of roaring Niagara Falls.
Intrepid Nik Wallenda, 33, said he achieved the feat with "a lot of praying", training and concentration.
The 33-year-old, a seventh generation member of the famed Flying Wallendas, had long dreamed of pulling off the stunt, never before attempted.
Others have wire-walked over the Niagara River but farther downstream and not since 1896.
An estimated crowd of 125,000 people on the Canadian side and 4,000 on the American side watched the stunt - in which Wallenda was tethered to prevent him falling in the river.

It was a blessing to hear Wallenda give glory to God through it all.

Of course the real test would be if the dare-devil were not tethered. Being tethered, knowing that one would always be winched up if one fell, gives the necessary sense of security would. This is not unlike doing allsorts on a trapeze at the circus, the difference between doing the stunts with a safety-net or without. One would still need to perform to perfection for the stunt to come off. The net is a very useful back-up. With the Niagara-crossing guy here, he is also using a pole held horizontally for him to maintain balance. There would be a scientific explanation for this and I imagine, nobody would attempt such a feat without the pole. It is quite possible that nobody will ever try the crossing without the safety measures.

Wow! I don't suppose you have to be mad to do that, but I'm sure it would help!
