Updated: Spinola big screen moves to Tigullio parking area

Watching the game on the big screen in Spinola yesterday evening. Video: Mark Zammit Cordina

The big screen in Spinola Bay is being moved to the parking area in front of the former Tigullio following an agreement between the Lands' Department and Massive Promotions Ltd.

As a result of the agreement, the company withdrew its court application for a warrant of prohibitory injunction to stop the authorities from removing the screen. The court yesterday temporarily upheld the company's request and a final decision was expected this morning.

The company told timesofmalta.com that as a result of the move they will not be showing the 6 p.m. match this evening. The next screening is of the 8.45 p.m. game.

The authorities had wanted to remove the screen after several businesses in the area complained that it was costing them business.

The St Julian's Council said in a statement that although it still believed that the decision originally taken had been the best one in the circumstances, it had no objection to move the event to an alternative site seeing there was agreement between the department and the organiser.

Football is international. There are many people worldwide who support other nation's teams. It is just about seeing a team playing and you fall in love with their tactics, teamwork, spirit and passion. So please don't give me this shite. Maltese football sucks and before pointing fingers, no I don't support Italy!

Just yesterday the Nottingham City Council erected a large screen at City Square which is surrounded by businesses and residents. Festivities for the Jubilee and the queen's visit went on till late at night. This idea that Malta is some sort of backwards 'pre-historic' country is only subscribed to by people who have never put one tiny little toe out of the island and disgusts me more than anything that goes on in my mother country.

The only problem we have in Malta is that certain people hate other people having fun and so do thier utmost to disrupt occasions such as feasts and the Euro 2012. So long as the noise is gone by 23:00 as prescribed by law, what is everyone's problem?

You are being uncivilised and stupid even more than you wish to portray others to be. First of all you have no right to speak for all of us Maltese and call us selfish or what not.

The n have you ever been abroad? have you ever educate yourself of other continental European countries? Have you ever been to Barcellona? Rome? Milan?

Do you have a TV? Have you switched it on when Italy is playing and the game is shown on the biggest screen ever in the largest, most central of the urban part of Italian cities? Have you been made to beleieve that Europeans are civilised and the rest of the world not?

Grow out off your colonialist mentality will you?

Whatever - defenetely do not call us racist remarks by labelling us all Maltese to be so and so - you would be helping us be be civilised even more that way.

This issue is the imposition of noise and disturbance in a public area, especially without a permit to do so in the first place.

Just because it's a public space doesn't mean anyone can do as they wish (although many Maltese fail to see this).

Believe it or not, there are other citizens that do not give a damn about football and would like to eat and walk in peace. There are screens in pubs, bars and also in ta` qali.. do we have to put one up on every damn street corner.

u s-santa!! Do people nowadays have to wait for Euro 2012 to have an evening meal? Not to sound too cynical, but should you want to enjoy peace and tranquility and perhaps indulge in deep intellectual conversations around those areas of Sliema or St. Julians, I would suggest instead going to a short trip to Comino or Filfla, unless you might complain for the lizards or flies being a nuisance! Unbelievable! Even a short term event such as this, fans enjoying a bit of fun is too much for some 'elite' restauranteurs! Never mind the tables, chairs and big menu placards sprawled across the pavement, is that not a nuisance? Of course not, they have 'permits' ey
