Queen Elizabeth II celebrated her Diamond Jubilee with great dignity in the midst of all the pomp and circumstance. I attended most of the events while visiting my son who lives just outside London in Kent.

There was extended coverage broadcast all over the world but being there in person was a unique experience. The millions of British and Commonwealth subjects present was an indelible statement of the high regard in which the Queen is held.

Her Majesty has given her life to one of the most demanding roles in existence. She has kept to the letter the promise she made when her dear father King George passed away and possibly took it further. The United Kingdom’s royal family headed by Queen Elizabeth has managed to move with the times and if anyone had any doubt as to their popularity the Jubilee events bear witness to the loyalty felt towards this amazing lady.

Being there in the middle of it all waving my Union Jack took me back to my childhood in Malta when, during royal visits I, together with many, lined the route. The Queen, although advancing in years like all of us, still has that genuine smile that warms the hearts of all those who see her.

God save our Queen.
