Jamaica’s double Olympic sprint champion Usain Bolt walked away uninjured from a minor road accident early yesterday, media reports claimed.
Bolt, also the world record holder in the 100 and 200m sprints, was involved in an accident in a busy part of Jamaica’s capital called Half Way Tree just after 5.15 a.m. on his way home from a party.
The 25-year-old, who has just returned to the Caribbean island after racing three times in Europe over recent weeks, suffered no injuries and went home to rest.
Bolt’s publicist Carole Beckford confirmed there was a car accident involving the sprinting superstar but said he was unhurt and was “at home sleeping”.
Former 100m world record holder Asafa Powell, who has also been racing on the European circuit, was on the scene at the time but was travelling in another vehicle.
The pair competed in Oslo, Norway on Thursday, with Bolt beating Powell to gold at the Diamond League meeting.
This is the second motor vehicle accident Bolt has been involved in over the past three years following the flipping of his BMW sportscar into a ditch in 2009 that left him with minor abrasions to his feet.
