A 53-year-old man has been charged with damaging cars belonging to Transport Malta and the Housing Authority because he felt he was not getting a good service.

The man’s lawyer said his client had mental health problems and needed psychiatric help.

When asked his name, age and place of birth in court, the accused replied that he did not know for sure because he was a baby at the time and was not around to verify the facts.

The man, from Sliema, pleaded not guilty to damaging a vehicle belonging to a Transport Malta official after he claimed there were delays in giving him a car registration plate.

He was also charged with threatening an official that he would blow up the Floriana offices and with slashing the tyres of the Housing Authority chief executive’s car after he felt he was not being given a good service.

He also faced charges of damaging the main door of the Swieqi Nationalist Party club because he felt ignored by the party and damaging the main door of Group 4 Security Company’s offices at the San Ġwann industrial estate as he felt insulted by some service they offered.

The man also denied stealing a wet floor sign from the Coastline Hotel and scratching the door of the St Paul’s Bay northern region tribunal after receiving a traffic fine. He was finally charged with breaching the peace and illegally possessing a knife.

Magistrate Joseph Apap Bologna ordered that the accused be sent to the forensic unit at Mount Carmel Hospital, where he is to be examined by a psychiatrist.

Lawyers Kevin Dingli and Tonio Grech represented the accused, whose name is not being published because of his alleged mental state.

Police Inspector Daniel Zammit prosecuted.
