The men’s national team will be making their debut in the European Championships this weekend when they play their first matches from Group D in Denmark.
There will be 39 teams taking part with the championships being played in two phases that start with a round-robin format and should be completed by Sunday.
Malta, coached by Matthew Mamo and his assistant Ian Psaila, will face a tough competition after being paired with Turkey, Latvia and Estonia.
Before the team’s departure to Copenhagen, Clyde Borg Conti, the Malta Handball Association CEO, said that following various participations in the Challenge Trophy, it was now deemed the appropriate time for the team to make their first showing at a competition of a higher level.
Louis Borg, the association’s president, agreed with Borg Conti and also thanked technical sponsor Eurosport, Kunsill Malti għall-Isport and the Maltese Olympic Committee for their support.
