If only there were no fear
I meet people who go to Mater Dei Hospital to have an MRI test and they all go through a great amount of fear. No one but our dear constant friend Jesus Christ gives support to one and all. The Lord says “fear not” in many instances in the time he spent on earth.
So if only the music one hears during the test be changed to songs of praise to our Lord Jesus, I am sure many patients will be alleviated of the great fear they go through.
The Minister of Health should take note. I sincerely hope my wish will receive a positive response.

What an intolerant suggestion. Dear Ms German - please do not try to impose your religion on somebody else. Are you even remotely aware that not all of us share your beliefs?? Do you have any respect for other points of view.
ps. No need to answer ... I think I can guess.

Great to see Karl Consiglio once again acknowledging the existence of Jesus. The Good Lord is truly working in his life!

Ms German's and Mr Cowie's theory must be that only Christians fall ill.
Sounds like motivation to go atheist to me!

Yes I believe Jesus existed as did Sidharta Gautama, Buddha to you and me and Mohammed. So what?

In Malta it always has to be politics or Religion! Why? I'd prefer Pink Floyd or Mettalica, thank you very much.

Lennon's "Imagine" would be my choice.

Actually there are MRI-safe headphones and healthcare services abroad offer you the option to listen to any of their playlists or to get your own. But don't use your normal headphones...they'll break in the MRI.
Then you can listen to All of bach's Cantatas if you so wish to... or Judas' Priest... and even Justin Bieber.

But no Metallica, Iron Maiden or Motorhead, due to the MRI machine's magnetic field :)

Ms German I appreciate that having to go through an MRI is a cause for tension. But in a public hospital relaxing music is fine it cannot be gospel singing or praise to any god. We all have different beliefs and some may find comfort in another way which believe it or not may differ to yours. So p,ease be accepting of others, in the name of your tolerant god.

People who have to have an MRI test go through a great amount of fear NOT because of the music provided to protect their hearing from the loud sounds emitted through the MRi machine but it is because they become very claustrophobic in the closed `tunnel'. It has nothing to do with religion and can't understand why some people has to include religion in every aspect of life. I can assure you no amount of religious music will help in this case, believe me I know since I have been through it.

Western medicine goes back to Hippocrates, late 5th Century BC, and doctors still take the "Hippocratic oath". An extensive set of ancient medical observations details how patients fared when they were treated by means such as diet and exercise.
What is exceptional in ancient thinking about health and disease is the clear-sighted recognition that doctors must observe accurately and record truthfully - even when patients die in the process.
Magical or wishful thinking cannot bring a cure. Only honest, exhaustive, empirical observation can hope to reveal what works and what does not.
So this letter basically takes us 2500 years into the past

That's all we need a load of religious singing thrust down our captive ears while were lying uncomfortable and worried in hospital. if anyone want that they can take an mp3 player with them.

Why not meditation music? It's composed for the very purpose of soothing people

Firstly it's a Hospital, not a Church. At best it would have been more appropriate to ask for the staff if they could put music which you personally felt could help you but then again they are medical staff not DJ's.

And what about non Christians like; Muslims, Hinduk, Atheists and more? Majority of the Maltese needs to stop thinking the world rotates around them and start accepting the fact that other people have different believes.

Rather, it would be better to give them a choice in the music.
Not all people feel alleviated when listening to "songs of praise to our Lord Jesus", not all people care for him.

Perhaps the department can simply alleviate any fears that people might have of the MRI machine. It's big but need not be scary. On the other hand, providing a selection of music that the person taking the test finds soothing would not be a bad idea, but making them all into religious songs would not be such a good idea.

Maureen
What about those who do not believe in things that are not backed by any evidence whatsoever?
What about those who despite any evidence whatsoever, believe in other deities?
What about those who went through a similar stressful situation but happened to had been born before the Bible was ever written or before they had heard about it? Were those people not worthy in God's eyes to be comforted by Him or His son?
Why do you want to impose your particular brand of superstition on everybody else instead of campaigning for the Health Authorities to allow patients to bring with them their own preferred type of music as is the practice in some other countries?

Ms. German may not be aware that there are other patients using Mater Dei other than Catholics or Christians. Maybe we should read exerpts from the Koran for Muslims, Mantras for Hindus the Torah for Jews and anything else but for atheists!
