Electricity cut at Mosta caused by private contractor
A third party private contractor working in the area of Mosta hit two underground 11kV Enemalta cables at around 2.30 p.m. which resulted in the suspension of supply in the locality.
Enemalta employees have managed to isolate the fault and restore supply to most of the consumers.
A small number of consumers are still affected as these cannot be supplied from alternative sources.
The repairs on the cable have already started, however, it is envisioned that this will take around 10 hours to fix, the corporation said.

It is normal for Enemalta and WSC to mark the areas where the contractor should find the services (water and electricity cables), on a site plan. Are these always accurate?? Is there a representative of the Utility service provider on site, before start of works?
Perhaps it would be valid suggestion to have these marked on the road, before the works start!

The contractor should be fined the expense involved to repair the damage ! Once there are ways how the existence of the cable could have been known, the contractor cannot be excused for causing the damage !

And it happens again and again. And it will happen again and again. It seems to me, that especially in this sector, nobody really cares.

It is now getting beyond the joke the contractor should be heavily fined. You could buy a cable detector for less than 500 euros yet these so called contractors start digging before they scan the ground .This practice has got to stop What are people suppose to do with the contents of their fridge freezer now.

Mickey Mouse contractors again. Surely they must have detailed plans of cables and pipework in the area before they start digging holes. What a shambles again.

They probably never heard that plans of cables and pipe works exist!!!
But, as Jimmy Vella stated above, cable detector do exist.
It is just thanks to the total ignorance of certain "professionals", that accidents like this one still happen. One should assume that these people are insured for this kind of negligence.
