Germany goalkeeper Manuel Neuer says Saturday's opening Euro 2012 match against Portugal is the perfect tonic for him and his Bayern Munich team-mates after losing the Champions League final.

Germany open their Group B campaign in Lviv, Ukraine, against Portugal and also face Holland and Denmark in their other pool games.

Neuer was in goal when Bayern suffered heartbreak in Munich on May 19 when Chelsea won the Champions League title for the first time after beating the Bavarians 4-3 in a penalty shoot-out.

"I think the Bayern Munich players have a big chance to make amends for what was for us a horrible season, it's a chance we are keen to use and for me the tournament comes at just the right time," said Neuer.

Eight of the Bayern team are in the Germany squad, including vice-captain Bastian Schweinsteiger, whose missed penalty in the shoot-out led to Didier Drogba hitting the winning spot kick for Chelsea.

Germany are among the favourites to lift their fourth European crown having last won the title in 1996 and lost the Euro 2008 final 1-0 to Spain.
