A 22-year-old French woman resident in St Paul's Bay was critically injured this morning when a piece of scaffolding fell on her in Gzira.

The woman was walking on the pavement under a building site at Gzira seafront when the incident happened at about 11.30 a.m.

People on the scene said the woman appeared to have been hit by a piece of scaffolding which fell from the sixth floor.

She was rushed to hospital in an ambulance. The police are investigating.
