Malta’s fastest swimmer in these last few years, Andrew Chetcuti, was in fine form yesterday.
The talented Chetcuti is forming part of the Malta team which is participating in the swimming championships of the Small States of Europe which are currently being held in Andorra.
Last year Chetcuti had underlined his potential when he won a silver medal in the 100 metres race at the 2011 Games of the Small States of Europe in Liechtenstein in a new national record of 51.98 seconds.
Yesterday, he bettered that limit when covering the two-lap event in 51.85 seconds to win the silver medal.
The young swimmer also holds the 50 metres freestyle national record of 23.65, a time he registered in the world championships in Shangai last year and the 200 metres freestyle in one minute 57.41 seconds set last February in Dublin, Ireland.
