Book to help prevent sexual violence against children launched
The Maltese version of the children's story book Kiko and the Hand (Kiko u l-Id), accompanied by a guide for parents on how to help prevent sexual violence against children, was launched this morning by the Commissioner for Children Helen d'Amato.
The book is aimed at children aged between three and six. It is a Council of Europe production, part of the campaing One in Five. It is available in eight language, including Maltese.
The One in Five campaign is aimed at preventing sexual abuse on children. The council calculates that one in every five children is a victim of sexual violence and abuse.
A simple rule to help prevent such violence is to teach children that certain parts of the body were not to be touched.

This booklet should be extremely welcome to all those involved in the care of young children, and this includes not only the parents, teachers and other child carers, but especially those professionals who seem not to be aware of the size and seriousness of the problem or else tend to treat the problem too lightly and thus indirectly serve to promote its diffusion.
Personally I am very satisfied with the publication of this booklet, coming as it did shortly after my contribution to Child on Child Molestation last March, and also following the recent propaganda by Agenzija Appogg along the same lines.
The publication of this new booklet did not occur a moment too soon and its diffusion amongst all those concerned is strongly recommended at the earliest.

@ Rita Zammit, you can use the www.underwearrule.org website, there is plenty more info there.
@ Robert Cassar, the world has been a sick place a long time, it's publications like these that make it better hopefully. children need to learn what's allowed & what's not.
