A woman who started a fight with another woman in the capital’s main road was conditionally discharged for two years.

Doreen Galdes, 32, of Ħamrun, was found guilty of seriously injuring Nadine Galdes by kicking her and breaking her left leg in April 2010.

Mary Gatt, an eyewitness, said she had accompanied Nadine Galdes to file a report against Doreen’s husband, Edward Galdes, at the Valletta police station.

She was later waiting for her outside a shop when she was approached by Doreen Galdes and her mother, Irene Attard, 55, of Valletta, who started shouting at her.

Nadine Galdes ran out of the shop and Doreen Galdes grabbed her by the hair, kicked her and dragged her as she fell to the ground, the witness said.

Magistrate Doreen Clarke cleared Mrs Attard of all charges but found her daughter guilty and ordered her not to approach Nadine Galdes for a year against a guarantee of €2,000.

Police Inspector Pierre Micallef Grimaud prosecuted.
